The history of MEDIMEX, today, makes it a point of reference, both economic and cultural, for operators and musical companies, for Italian and international artists and an annual event not to be missed for the Italian music market that finds, in each edition, an opportunity for discussion and analysis but also for networking and promotion.

An international festival and a music conference with an important section of activities aimed at music professionals and multiple events for the general public.

The 2017 edition of MEDIMEX marked a change in the format that has consolidated edition after edition since then. No longer a market fair, located in the spaces of the Fiera del Levante in Bari, as in the first five editions, those of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, but a festival and a music conference spread across multiple venues, within the same city, each capable of enhancing the main components of MEDIMEX: the large spaces for live performances, the most important theaters for meetings with authors, the universities for training events and those dedicated to professionals.

In 2017, MEDIMEX invades Bari: with music and dozens of activities designed for both professionals and the general public and, above all, with the great live performances of Iggy Pop, Solange, Tricky, Slowdive and Salmo. Since 2018, MEDIMEX has become a traveling event. The first stop was Taranto with a busy calendar of activities spread across the city’s most evocative locations, with live performances by Kraftwerk, Placebo and Nitro. In 2019, the event was proposed in a spring edition in Foggia, with live performances by Renzo Arbore and Brian Ferry, and in June it confirmed its partnership with the city of Taranto, reaching a growing participation with live performances by Editors, Liam Gallagher and Patti Smith.

In 2020, MEDIMEX was the first music conference to go entirely digital. MEDIMEX Digital closed with almost 100 hours of streaming activity and 350 thousand people reached on social networks, recording over 100 thousand total views, 1500 users who participated in workshops and online webinars.

In 2021, MEDIMEX brings great music back to Taranto through the events that have made it memorable: workshop activities, laboratories, showcases, author meetings, artistic campuses, exhibitions. A unique opportunity for meeting, learning, training, discussion and growth. The project, as always, will be open to all citizens, becoming an important opportunity for territorial animation.

MEDIMEX 2022 marks the return of great live events with concerts by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in Taranto (June 19) and The Chemical Brothers in Bari (July 14) and the return of the event to the capital of Puglia where it was born in 2011. A long edition scheduled from June 16 to 19 in Taranto and from July 13 to 15 in Bari. In addition to the live events, meetings with the protagonists of Italian music, professional and networking activities aimed at regional and national artists and music operators who, as usual, hosted representatives of the main Italian and international festivals and cultural institutions, and also music schools aimed at those who want to get closer to the world of music and professionals, showcases of Puglia artists and numerous collateral activities.

The 2023 edition was a very successful one. It recorded a great participation in all the events, a great influx of people in Taranto and received important visibility in the media. In addition, there were more than 300 operators in the music sector who participated in the professional and networking activities. Unforgettable and exciting were the live performances that saw Echo & the Bunnymen, Diodato, The Murder Capital, Skunk Anansie, Tom Morello and The Cult alternate on the stage of the seafront roundabout; as well as the showcases at the Spazioporto. The University spaces pulsating with life for the professional and networking activities that brought a prestigious representation of the Italian music market to Taranto to discuss Music Commission, support for new generations, the live market, the recording industry, singer-songwriters, protections and rights, funding for the recording industry and music in the time of TikTok.

In 2024, still in Taranto, MEDIMEX celebrated its XIV edition. The intense alternation of events, meetings, discussions was breathtaking: seventy-five events, more than one hundred guests, more than three hundred registered operators, thousands of spectators, for a program animated by the theme of AI, but also numerous panels, presentations and workshops on internationalization, gender equality in the Italian music industry, digital revolution, international cooperation, Sync, Artistic Centric Model and new perspectives of live music. And, to close, the live shows arrived on the Rotonda del Lungomare. The Smile were imposing and generous, the Jesus and Mary Chain were unrepeatable and, finally, iconic, shrewd and deeply happy: the Pulp show. Great participation for the showcases at the Spazioporto and for the national premiere of the film AngelHeaded Hipster. The Songs of Marc Bolan & T. Rex and for the meetings the Notorious B.I.G. & Tupac Shakur with Tormento, Michael Jackson & Prince, The Beatles & The Rolling Stones and Lou Reed & David Bowie with Manuel Agnelli, at the Teatro Fusco. Success for the video mapping Infinite Loop, AI Endless Exploration, an original work by Roberto Santoro and Blending Pixels, and for the exhibition Bob Gruen: John Lennon, The New York Years.

Since the closing of the 2024 edition, we have been working on defining the program and guests of the 2025 edition, the XV, whose dates are already known: 17 — 21 June, still in the city of Taranto.
