MEDIMEX was born in 2011 as the Fiera delle Musiche del Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Music Fair), driven by regional policies for the development of music. The Puglia Region regards music as a productive activity on a par with other economic sectors, one in which it is both possible and necessary to invest resources and creativity.
From the very start, MEDIMEX established itself as a wide-ranging international event devoted entirely to music: the music of artists, of industry professionals and of audiences.
The first edition already set out the defining features of the event: live music and the music conference, brought together by the ability of music to be a cross-cutting language that can inspire and enrich others, such as cinema, radio, photography, comics, the visual arts and literature.
During the first five editions, from 2011 to 2015, held at the Bari exhibition centre, hundreds of events brought together thousands of artists and professionals, festivals and Puglia businesses to celebrate music across the whole supply chain. Since 2017 MEDIMEX has moved between cities, changed its programme and renamed its events.
Yet it has held on to the defining features that make it such a valuable moment for music, for Puglia and its people, becoming the leading international festival and music conference for industry professionals, enriched by many events for the general public.
MEDIMEX is organised and produced by Puglia Culture as part of Puglia Sounds, the project for the development of the regional music system carried out in collaboration with the Puglia Region.
