The main programme of the 2011 edition of MEDIMEX (dedicated to the musician Massimo La Zazzera) takes place at the Fiera del Levante, which hosts more than 100 exhibition stands, and also involves the Showville cinema and the Teatro Petruzzelli. Two special programmes are added: the Off, with 5 events spread across Teatro Kismet Opera, Auditorium Diocesano Vallisa, Demodé Club and Auditorium Rai; and the Bonus Track, with more than 12 concerts in 8 venues around Bari. All between 25 and 27 November.
21 music projects play showcases: Djmawi Africa, Antonio Castrignanò, Roberta Alloisio, Fanfara Tirana & Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, Jolaurlo, Mascarimirì, Mama Marjas, Bianco, Badiaa Bouhrizi, Savina Yannatou & Primavera en Salonicco, Rodrigo Leao & Cinema Ensemble, Erica Mou, H.E.R. and the Banda Famenera, Transglobal Underground & Natacha Atlas, The Banditi, Steela, Moussu T e Lei Jovents, Boomdabash, Phinx, Fabrizio Cammarata & The Second Grace, Sonia Brex & Band.
In collaboration with Club Tenco, the Teatro Petruzzelli hosts Meraviglioso Modugno, a sung tribute to Domenico Modugno, with Vinicio Capossela, Simone Cristicchi, Cristina Donà, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, Pino Marino, Nada & Fausto Mesolella, Roy Paci, Radiodervish, Peppe Servillo, Daniele Silvestri, Sud Sound System, Paola Turci, Beppe Voltarelli.
The conference features 28 events led by institutions and festivals, companies, professionals and trade associations on a range of current topics: music as a way of promoting the territory; the prospects of the Italian digital market; the sustainability of live entertainment; the North African and Middle Eastern music market; the production district; electronic music and club culture; music as work; export and internationalisation through international fairs, conventions and showcases; the Euro-Mediterranean network of popular culture called Rete Arianna; two case studies on Fira Mediterrània de Manresa and Womex; YouTube, MySpace and FlopTV meeting artists, labels and professionals; tax and social security rules for music workers.
The programme continues with meetings with the artists Il Teatro degli Orrori and Vasco Brondi; the presentation of the album “Cattivi Guagliuni” by 99 Posse; the experience of the Future Music Contest, the Teatro Valle Occupato and the Salentini Generali. Alongside these events there are the Puglia Sounds Record speed dates; music aperitifs with Donpasta, Fabrizio Versienti and Ugo Sbisà; and meetings with students from the Gaber and Fabrizio De André Onlus foundations.
The programme is completed by the PIMI 2011, the Italian independent music award, and the PIVI, the Italian independent music video award, both promoted by MEI, and by the MEDIMEX awards to Vinicio Capossela as best Italian artist and to Natacha Atlas as best international artist.
