The main programme of the 2014 edition of MEDIMEX (dedicated to the musician Morris Maremonti) takes place at the Fiera del Levante, which this year hosts more than 100 exhibition stands, and also involves the Cineporto. From 30 October to 1 November.
The conference features 56 events. 19 panels on the present of music, on how the market is changing as digital takes hold; on jazz, electronic music and urban festivals; on the Mediterranean; on live music and internationalisation. 6 case studies with senior representatives of institutions and private companies: from MiBACT to the Franco-British label Because Music, from SXSW to EE Music and the Paris festival We Love Green and, finally, Salmo, who opens the doors to his personal way of working. 10 workshops ranging from European funding to photography, from film music to digital music marketing, from production with Don Joe, Shablo, Fritz Da Cat and Mondo Marcio to the stories of Nicola Conte, Populous and Guido Nemola. As many as 15 presentations by associations, companies and organisations on the work that supports music and happens within it; a space called Music Up with 14 new ventures[1] selected through a public call[2], as well as 100 music innovators and 10 teams working on the development of new music ideas and projects. 6 mentoring and pitch sessions on topics including strategies for exporting your music to the United States and China, plus the pitch session for the 10th anniversary of KeepOn, the association of Italian live clubs, with a focus on Puglia and Southern Italy. In addition, 29[3] professionals from fairs, conventions and festivals meet the showcase artists in timed face-to-face sessions.
The languages of music, cinema and radio are joined by literature, with book presentations. There are 4 this year, with the authors presenting their work and discussing it with other guests.
The Incontri d’Autore (Meet the Author), curated and hosted by Ernesto Assante and Gino Castaldo and other personalities, welcome Gino Paoli, Brunori Sas, Giorgia, Malika Ayane, Paolo Fresu, Niccolò Ammaniti, Entics, J-Ax, Manuel Agnelli, Rocco Hunt, Ivano Fossati, Pierpaolo Capovilla, Renzo Rubino, Niccolò Fabi, Max Gazzè and Daniele Silvestri, Enzo Avitabile, Violetta and Michele Bravi. 14 of the artists who have received support from the Puglia Sounds Record call over the years play showcases: Admir Shkurtaj, Pasquale Delle Foglie, Radicanto, Fabryka, Redi Hasa & Maria Mazzotta, Il Bric, Camillorè, Non Giovanni, Bari Jungle Brothers, Duo Folksongs!, Molla, Fonokit, Ghetto Eden, Una. They are joined by 16 live sets by The Ringo Jets, Lenacay, Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio & Ginevra di Marco feat. Mama Marjas, Mammooth, Brunori Sas, Sinner, Dado Magnetico, Mannarino, Nidi d’Arac, Cristina Donà, Diodato, My Little Cheap Dictaphone, Dakhabrakha, Plaza Francia, Jack Savoretti, Alienarmy.
With Kids, MEDIMEX brings young and very young students closer to music. The invitation, taken up by 11 schools, brought 3,500 students to the event venues, where they wrote, created, listened and discussed with most of the artists who were guests of the Incontri d’Autore. The programme is completed by the awards of the Academy Medimex, in their second edition. A jury[1] of editors-in-chief, music journalists and DJs gives awards to the best Italian and international productions of the year in five categories. The winners are Cesare Cremonini, Vasco Rossi, Rocco Hunt, Levante and Caparezza.
