In Taranto the MEDIMEX programme is spread across 8 venues: the University of Bari – Ionian Department, Giardini Peripato, Rotonda del Lungomare, the “G. Paisiello” Higher Institute of Musical Studies, MArTA (National Archaeological Museum of Taranto), Teatro Fusco, the Castello Aragonese and its Municipal Gallery, and the Caffè Letterario. All from 4 to 9 June.
The University becomes the main venue of the Conference, with 16 events on the programme. 7 workshops: safety on music production sites; the legal aspects of live music; audience development; the main sources of funding for a music project; the legal aspects of sync; playlisting; the relationship between music and artificial intelligence. 3 Sync Lab sessions. 5 presentations by professionals and 1 PIN (Pugliesi Innovativi) Aperitif curated by ARTI. In addition, 13[1] professionals from fairs, conventions and festivals meet artists and professionals in timed face-to-face sessions.
MArTA hosts the exhibition “Woodstock & Hendrix: THE REVOLUTION”, more than 60 shots from the archives of the photographers Baron Wolman and Donald Silverstein, celebrating fifty years since the most important festival in history, Woodstock. Silverstein’s shots capture Jimi Hendrix in 1967, at the height of his revolutionary career, while Wolman, who covered the festival for Rolling Stone, looks beyond the stage and captures the unrepeatable atmosphere of that first edition. Two more exhibitions, at the Municipal Gallery of the Castello Aragonese, are “Rocks and Shots” by Henry Ruggeri and “Wonderwall – An exhibition about Oasis”, curated by Puglia Rock.
At the Teatro Fusco, 3 films: “Woodstock – 3 Days of Peace & Music” by Michael Wadleigh; “My Generation – Woodstock 1969, 1994, 1999” by Barbara Kopple; “Woodstock – Three days that defined a generation” by Barak Goodman. And the third edition of the Rec’n’Play Contest.
The University and the Giardini Peripato host 7 Incontri d’Autore (Meet the Author) with Frankie hi-nrg mc, Franco 126, Baron Wolman, Mezzosangue, Piero Pelù, Motta and Patti Smith, plus a special music lesson, “Woodstock 1969 – 1994”, with Ernesto Assante and Giovanni Canitano, official photographer of the 1994 edition of Woodstock.
The Giardini Peripato host the second edition of the Medimex Music Market feat. Fiera del Disco & Independent Label Market, curated by PopUp the Sunday, Display Agency, Discipline, Node, Coolclub and the Fiera del Disco Sud Italia. The record labels taking part are Bella Union, Rough Trade, BBE, Marathon, Moshi Moshi, Fat Cat, Blind Faith, Tempura Dischi, Metroklang, Tardam, Mexico 70 Record Shop and Tape Tales. 4 concerts: Gio Evan with Roberto Dellera & Enrico Gabrielli, Woodstock Special Project Band (The Good Ole Boys with Nabil, Erica Mou and Giò Sada), La Municipàl, Asian Dub Foundation.
On the main stage on the Rotonda del Lungomare, 6 concerts: JoyCut, King Hammond & The Rude Boy Mafia, Liam Gallagher, Sound of Garage, Kalàscima, Patti Smith.
The Caffè Letterario hosts 3 book presentations.
MEDIMEX once again offers training in music professions with Songwriting Camp and Puglia Sounds Musicarium (basic and advanced).
Songwriting Camp is aimed at songwriters and producers and is run in collaboration with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The tutors are Leonardo Cristoni, Vincenzo Colella, Viviana Colombo, Alessandro De Blasio, Giorgia D’Eraclea, Alessandro Di Sciullo, Jacopo Ettorre, Tony Maiello, Davide Napoleone, Valeria Palmitessa, Piero Romitelli and Leonardo Zaccaria. The Puglia Sounds Musicarium music school covers the themes and professions of music. Basic courses in social media marketing, vocal coaching, writing music and lyrics, self-production, the music business, management, stages and lighting, with the tutors Giuseppe Tatoli and Claudio Morgese, Carolina Bubbico, Beppe Vessicchio, Antonella Rizzi, Francesca Rubino, Matteo Zanobini and Gianluca Cappelletti. Advanced courses in sound engineering and production, photography and art direction, music marketing and digital communication, with the tutors Tommaso Colliva and Marc Urselli, Giovanni Canitano and Paolo De Francesco, Marc Plotkin, Giuseppe Tatoli and Claudio Morgese.
