Music, audiovisual, culture and artificial intelligence: do Europe need believers or visionaries? Artificial intelligence is not (just) science fiction. It is a reality that Europe’s cultural and creative sectors must deal with. With a budget of around 2.5 billion euros, Creative Europe is the European Commission’s programme that supports culture and creativity in Europe. Most of the calls for proposals dedicated to innovation and mobility of artists*, works and cultural and audiovisual content also includes artificial intelligence, virtual worlds, NFTs and other emerging technologies. In the Culture and Media Programmes, AI and emerging technologies open up new scenarios: from copyright, production and promotion of content, to the impact on creative work. In the CROSS section, which connects the Culture and MEDIA sub-programmes, AI, together with emerging technologies, is one of the focuses of “Creative Innovation Lab”, a call to support tools, solutions and models that can be replicated at European level for audiovisual and culture. Collaboration between music and audiovisual is one of the main themes explored by the co-financed projects. With the AI Act, the European Commission promotes a digital ethic and an anthropocentric vision of digital transformation. Far from apocalyptic science fiction scenarios, the European context must deal with an important fact: only 13% of European companies use artificial intelligence. During the panel there will be a reflection on these themes, on a possible dialogue between the music and audiovisual sectors, on the declinations of the concept of innovation, the work of those who create and the funding opportunities of the Program.

The myth of innovation. How Will digitalisation shape Europe’s digital future?

Algorithmic scenarios: visibility of products and artists* in markets Europeans and beyond

How important are platforms for the promotion of emerging artists? In a market dominated by Spotify, the Videomuse project (co-financed by the “Innovation Lab” call) by Melboss is an innovative platform that combines art, technology and blockchain. Videomuse offers fans and enthusiasts new ways to connect with artists and videomakers, who expand their musical and visual narratives in new digital scenarios. Videomuse is not the only project of Melboss, a Spanish company founded in 2013, which offers services to artists, record labels and other professionals in the music industry. Algo-Rhythms supports artists from Europe in their expansion into the Latin American music scene (LATAM) and makes accessible advanced marketing tools, traditionally reserved for major record labels. The project offers pilot solutions and empowerment activities, in order to enhance the mobility of music professionals, artists and their works towards a key strategic market, where European cultural industries have historically faced obstacles or continue to face them.
