Dave Rowntree is best known as the drummer for the band Blur. He is also a political activist for the Labour Party, a lawyer, an animator and writes music for film and TV. Born in Colchester to musical parents, he studied drumming at Landermere Music School on weekends. Dave played in several bands with childhood friend Graham Coxon, before joining up with Damon Albarn and later Alex James to form the band Seymour, which would later become Blur. Until recently, Dave worked as a DJ on XFM, where he made his radio debut with tracks by artists such as Rat Boy, Pretty Vicious, The Big Moon and Aurora. He is also a co-founder of the Featured Artists Coalition and the Star Boot Sale, a charity where musicians and other artists donate their possessions to raise money for refugees.
