Stevie Wonder is one of the geniuses of 1970s Black music. Blind since birth, he achieved his first hit in 1963 at just thirteen years old, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Fingertips.” Throughout the 1960s, he continued to produce international hits with the Motown label, even appearing at the Sanremo Music Festival, but it was in the 1970s that his enormous talent and songwriting skills truly emerged. Now 18, he renegotiated his contract with the Detroit label, allowing him complete freedom in his artistic choices. He paved a path that coincided with a great renaissance of Black music, in which he carved out an extraordinary role for himself: a multi-instrumentalist, he developed a passion for the new possibilities of electronic keyboards and created a series of absolute masterpieces, followed by even greater commercial successes in the 1980s and 1990s.
