“On the Move” is a project that speaks of migration and movement, both physical and metaphorical. Through the texts of English writer and political activist Michael Rosen—who has dedicated an entire book of poetry to the topic—Michele Bonifati and Beatrice Arrigoni give voice and sound to words rich with timely content: today, when migration, such as that across the Mediterranean, is becoming incessant and tragic, to the point of representing—along with the themes of diversity, integration, and the human rights of migrants—a crucial phenomenon of our times. Improvising on Michael Rosen’s texts, the duo explores how sound can transform and evolve to become something else and return to itself, in a constantly shifting interplay of nuances that gives meaning to the word, while simultaneously allowing itself to be permeated by it, becoming its echo. Through a relentless exploration of sound, the music becomes iridescent and kaleidoscopic, revealing stylistic influences that draw on the most diverse languages of contemporary life and the vast world of the “song form.”
