MEDIMEX drops anchor.
The 2024 edition of MEDIMEX remembers Ernesto Assante. It takes place in Taranto, where the programme is spread across 9 venues: the University of Bari – Ionian Department, Teatro Fusco, Castello Aragonese, the “G. Paisiello” Higher Institute of Musical Studies, MArTA (National Archaeological Museum of Taranto), Caffè Letterario, Spazioporto, Rotonda del Lungomare and StudioGaudio Recording. All from 19 to 23 June.
The University becomes the main venue of the Conference, with 15 events on the programme. 7 panels: the value of world music; a duet between Riccardo Luna and Alex Braga on AI; the human element in programming live music venues; creativity and rights in the age of AI; the places and practices of jazz; music for images; the importance of catalogue for today’s music business. 3 workshops: export; designing live events with an approach to diversity in Italy; how events are changing with AI. 2 One to One sessions with Creative Europe, LiveMX and the European Digital Innovation Hub CETMA-DIHSME. 3 presentations: the focus on Italy at ESNS 2025; EU funding for the music sector; project design, networking and data collection.
At MArTA, the exhibition “Bob Gruen: John Lennon, The New York Years”: 60 selected shots documenting John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ten years in New York after the Beatles split.
6 concerts on the Rotonda del Lungomare: The Smile, Robert Stillman, Melga, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pulp, Guatemala.
At the Teatro Fusco, 4 Incontri & Racconti: “The Notorious B.I.G. & Tupac”; “Michael Jackson & Prince”; “The Beatles & The Rolling Stones”; “Lou Reed & David Bowie”. The theatre also hosts a screening of the film “AngelHeaded Hipster, The Songs of Marc Bolan & T.Rex” by Ethan Silverman, with the director in attendance. At MArTA and at the University, 2 talks open to the general public with Bob Gruen and Santi Francesi.

19 artists play showcases at Spazioporto, with Accasaccio, Eleonora Bordonaro, Francesco Moramarco, Kyoto, Salvio Vassallo and Monica Pinto, Sandro Joyeux, Comrad, Leland Did It, Nebüla, PinhDAR, Rareş, Samia, Antonello Losacco, Evita Polidoro, Jacopo Ferrazza, Pasquale Calò, Maladè, Valentina Fin Cohors and Wasted Generation.
The “G. Paisiello” Higher Institute of Musical Studies hosts the lessons of the Medimex Music Factory, run in collaboration with Sony Music Publishing Italy. The tutors are Bianco, Michele Braga, Francesco Cerasi, Cecilia Del Bono, Machweo, Davide Napoleone, Santi Pulvirenti and Piero Romitelli.
Puglia Sounds Musicarium hosts courses in podcasting (Gabriele Beretta and Teo Cremonini); creating a digital fanzine (Dario Falcini); recording and mixing (Marc Urselli); live sound engineering (Antonio Porcelli); live show design (Carlo Pastore); beyond frames, live video for events and theatre (Fabio dell’Anna); rock photography and beyond (Giovanni Canitano); vocal coaching (Carolina Bubbico); writing a song (Giuseppe Anastasi); content marketing for musicians (Gabriele Aprile). The last three courses are for the participants in the Next Generation Award, whose final takes place at the Caffè Letterario.
The Caffè Letterario hosts 3 book presentations: the Medimex Book Stories continue.
The façade of the Castello Aragonese hosts the projection mapping show “AI Endless Exploration” by Roberto Santoro and Blending Pixels. MEDIMEX radio broadcasts every day from the University.
