Le strade del Mediterraneo

From June 18th to 20th, the special project curated by Antonio Diodato with Sara Gioielli, Davide Ambrogio, and Sami Galbi returns to Medimex at the Aragonese Castle.

I like to imagine this journey through the streets of the Mediterranean, city streets, imaginary streets, routes traced by cultures that have crossed and mixed over the millennia, producing sounds, rhythms that today connect with something profound – Antonio Diodato

The second edition of Le Strade del Mediterraneo kicks off on Thursday, June 18th, with a concert by Sara Gioielli, a singer-songwriter and producer born in Naples in 2001. After 11 years in the children’s choir of the San Carlo Theatre in Naples, she studied oboe and jazz singing at the conservatory and began to establish herself on the Campania scene. In 2025, she recorded three songs with La Niña, accompanied Liberato in his live performance at the Circo Massimo, and wrote and composed her first album, entitled “Gioielli Neri,” for Peermusic Italy.

On Friday, June 19, the festival features Davide Ambrogio, a singer and multi-instrumentalist who has drawn inspiration from the oral traditions of his native Aspromonte to create his own musical language. Following his extraordinary debut album, “Evocazioni e Invocazioni,” which explores Calabrian ritual music (winner of the Loano Giovani National Prize, the Musica contro le Mafie Prize, and the Ethnos Gener/Azioni Prize 2020) and numerous concerts across Europe, he presents his new album, “Mater Nullius.” The musical heart of “Mater Nullius” stems from a reinterpretation of the sonic code used during the Holy Week rituals in southern Italy, adapted in this album to narrate the protagonist’s journey of transformation. The 14 Stations of the Cross thus become a metaphor for the protagonist’s inner journey: a modern Western man confronting a profound crisis through an encounter with his primordial self. On stage Davide Ambrogio (vocals, troccole, guitar), Walter Laureti (synthesizers, live electronics), Federico Laganà TBC (percussion and vocals), Gabriele Bazza (vocals, guitar), Vincenzo Gagliani (drums).

The program closes on Saturday, June 20th with Sami Galbi, a Swiss-Moroccan multi-instrumentalist and producer from the alternative scenes of French-speaking Switzerland. He draws inspiration from his musical worlds to create his sound: on the one hand, he embraces raï and chaâbi, the folk music of his childhood, and on the other, he fuses urban sampling and electronic music. Using analog instruments, synthesizers, and his guitar, he reinterprets North African folk music, infusing it with contemporary sounds and a club vibe. A high-energy performance that borrows elements from the codes of postmodern urban music. On stage are Sami Galbi (guitar, electronics, vocals) and Yann Hunziker (percussion).

Admission to the concerts is free until all available seats are filled.
