    Also for its fifth edi­tion, Med­imex presents itself as a real city of music designed on an area of 20 thou­sand square meters with 100 exhib­it­ors from all over the world, over 200 guests from 27 coun­tries and 150 events in three days.

    No less than 70 events in 6 spaces and 40 con­certs on 5 stages, includ­ing per­form­ances by Aus­trali­an pop star Nat­alie Imbruglia, Sicili­an sing­er-song­writer Car­men Con­soli and Hindi Zahra, defined as the ” North Afric­an Patti Smith”. And also live per­form­ances by some of the most inter­est­ing artists of the Itali­an and inter­na­tion­al music scene, includ­ing Kutso, Gio­vanni Cac­camo and Santa Mar­garet. On the stage ded­ic­ated to the music of Puglia, the artists who pro­duced a record­ing pro­ject sup­por­ted by Puglia Sounds in 2015: Radi­oder­vish, Erica Mou, Raf­faele Cas­arano and Car­o­lina Bub­bico.


    The 2015 Meet the Author events fea­tured Bri­an Eno, who presen­ted the world premiere of Light Paint­ings as a visu­al artist. His install­a­tion was on dis­play at Teatro Mar­gher­ita in Bari. Among the oth­er guests of the Meet the Author gath­er­ings: Gianna Nan­nini, Car­men Con­soli, Ludovico Ein­audi, the Sud Sound Sys­tem and Vini­cio Capos­sela, who cel­eb­rated his 25-year long career right at Med­imex. This edi­tion has also seen the par­ti­cip­a­tion of com­poser Dav­id Lang, the Depro­du­cers (Max Cas­acci, Vit­torio Cosma, Gianni Maroc­colo and Ric­cardo Sin­igal­lia), writers Erri De Luca, Gian­rico Carofiglio and Gian­carlo De Cataldo, and a group of emer­ging Itali­an music tal­ents includ­ing rap­per Ensi, Lo Stato Sociale, Francesca Michielin, The Kolors and Lorenzo Fragola, who won the Med­imex Academy awards for Best New Artist and Best First Work.

    In the Pan­els sec­tion Med­imex 2015 hos­ted artist­ic dir­ect­ors and experts in fest­iv­al organ­iz­a­tion, pro­duc­tion and pro­mo­tion from the most import­ant fest­ivals and live per­form­ance exper­i­ences on a glob­al scale: Sta­cey Will­helm from South by South­w­est in Aus­tin (USA), Chris Gar­rit, the “night may­or” of Gronin­gen, the Dutch city of night­life and Euro­son­ic, Mal­colm Haynes from Gla­ston­bury (UK), Enrik Rasmussem from Roskilde (Den­mark), Izzy Loi­caono from Great Escape (UK) and Peter Smidt from c/o pop Fest­iv­al (Ger­many) were among them.

    More than 17,000 attendees, 1,100 accred­ited oper­at­ors, 300 guests includ­ing artists and speak­ers and 33 nations involved. These are the num­bers of the fourth edi­tion of Med­imex.

    More than 17,000 attendees, 1,100 accred­ited oper­at­ors, 300 guests includ­ing artists and con­fer­ence speak­ers and 33 coun­tries involved. These are the num­bers of the fourth edi­tion of Med­imex, which brought togeth­er major and inde­pend­ent record labels, fest­ivals, industry oper­at­ors, agen­cies, media, pro­moters, star­tups and makers, music insti­tu­tions, net­works, music pub­lish­ers, rep­res­ent­at­ives of the tech­no­logy industry and pro­fes­sion­als from the entire music industry. This innov­a­tion music show was held on an area of 20,000 square meters with an area ded­ic­ated to night live music shows with 4 stages, an exhib­i­tion area of 8,000sqm that hos­ted booths, net­work­ing areas, rooms for pan­els, meet­ings, present­a­tions, stages for live music, and an area ded­ic­ated to innov­a­tion, media spaces, games space and much more.

    Since 2014, the Meet the Author events have been part of the MEDIMEX Kids pro­ject, a train­ing pro­gram ded­ic­ated to Itali­an auteur music for the stu­dents of juni­or and seni­or high schools with the par­ti­cip­a­tion of over 3,500 of them. Med­imex Kids includes a com­pre­hens­ive pro­gram for schools with work­shops, mul­tidiscip­lin­ary activ­it­ies, work on the texts and poems of the artists guests of the show that provides stu­dents with tools for act­ive and informed par­ti­cip­a­tion in the Meet the Authors gath­er­ings. Pivotal event of this edi­tion was the vis­it of Vasco Rossi to Med­imex for the world premiere of his album entitled “Sono Inno­cente”. Vasco Rossi press con­fer­ence was atten­ded by 250 accred­ited journ­al­ists from the main Itali­an news­pa­pers.


    Med­imex Music Up: since its fourth edi­tion, Med­imex has devoted an area of the exhib­i­tion space to the most inter­est­ing star­tups and makers that oper­ate in the music industry and to the devel­op­ment of ideas and pro­jects that aim to change the world of music and cre­ate a strong rela­tion­ship between innov­at­ors and music industry. A them­at­ic and inter­act­ive space where the pub­lic and industry pro­fes­sion­als can get to know new music star­tups and try out products and tools that com­bine new tech­no­lo­gies, tra­di­tion­al crafts­man­ship, 3d print­ing, every­day objects, IT and design made by digit­al artis­ans. Moreover, in 2014 Med­imex hos­ted the first edi­tion of Med­imex Music Up, three days focused on the devel­op­ment of new ideas, products and pro­jects inten­ded to change and innov­ate the way music is pro­duced and con­sumed. 66 music innov­at­ors includ­ing artists, com­puter sci­ent­ists, design­ers, musi­cians, busi­ness and mar­ket­ing developers, product man­agers, divided into teams, have worked with­in the Music Up Area for the entire dur­a­tion of the show to devel­op new ideas and music pro­jects.

    Med­imex is also an oppor­tun­ity for pro­fes­sion­als to dis­cuss music, ana­lyze changes and pro­spects of a mar­ket in con­stant devel­op­ment. Dur­ing the fourth edi­tion, innov­a­tions in the record industry were dis­cussed with Aless­andro Mas­sara (Uni­ver­sal), Marco Alboni (Warner), Andrea Rosi (Sony), Cater­ina Case­lli (Sug­ar) with Dori Ghezzi (le Nuvole) and rep­res­ent­at­ives of the most import­ant Itali­an inde­pend­ent labels. Room was giv­en to the live music mar­ket in Italy with Sal­vatore Nastasi (Direzione Nazionale Spettacolo dal Vivo MIBACT), Carlo Fuor­tes (Musica per Roma), Roberto De Luca (Live Nation) and dis­cussants from numer­ous fest­ivals and nation­al cir­cuits such as Kee­pOn and Super­club Italia. The new fron­ti­ers between copy­right and tech­no­logy were also dis­cussed in a num­ber of pan­els with dis­cussants from FIMI, Google/Youtube, Soundreef and Deez­er. Many events were held which focused on all music­al genres, from the sounds of the Medi­ter­ranean to jazz music — with a spe­cial event pro­moted by Europe Jazz Net­work, Asso­ciazione I‑Jazz and Apulia Jazz Net­work — to elec­tron­ic music with rep­res­ent­at­ives of the Son­ar fest­iv­al and of the main Itali­an fest­ivals includ­ing Elita Design Week Fest­iv­al, Club2Club and Robot Fest­iv­al.

    As every year, this edi­tion fea­tures an import­ant and pres­ti­gi­ous par­ti­cip­a­tion of inter­na­tion­al oper­at­ors: in 2014 Med­imex was atten­ded by rep­res­ent­at­ives of SWSX, Babel Med, Cana­dian Music Week, Reperbhann Fest­iv­al, Szi­get Fest­iv­al, North Sea Jazz Fest­iv­al, Waves Fest­iv­al, Jarasum Jazz Fest­iv­al, We Love Green, Les Nuits Son­ores, Mer­cat de Música Viva de Vic, Jazza­head!, Womex, Fira Medi­ter­rània di Man­resa, Liv­er­pool Sound City, MaMa, Sound of the Xity, Europe Jazz Net­work and Korea Arts Man­age­ment Ser­vice.

    The third edi­tion of MEDIMEX hos­ted 80 events. A unique event in Italy: a large music salon for an audi­ence of enthu­si­asts and, at the same time, an inter­na­tion­al mar­ket fair aimed at pro­fes­sion­als.

    The third edi­tion of MEDIMEX fea­tured 80 events, 22 show­cases and con­certs of Itali­an and inter­na­tion­al artists on 3 dif­fer­ent stages, 8,000 square meters of exhib­i­tion space at the Fiera del Levante with over 100 booths, 5 rooms for 54 Meet the Author gath­er­ings, pan­els, present­a­tions and pro­fes­sion­al meet­ings with 198 speak­ers from 23 coun­tries. A unique event in Italy: a great music show for an audi­ence of music lov­ers and, at the same time, an inter­na­tion­al trade fair for pro­fes­sion­als.

    Dur­ing the third edi­tion of Med­imex, the sec­tion includ­ing the Meet the Author gath­er­ings, the pan­els and the present­a­tions for the gen­er­al pub­lic for music lov­ers and music oper­at­ors was very rich and var­ied. Three days of dis­cus­sions on music anim­ated by artists, some of the most influ­en­tial voices of the inter­na­tion­al music mar­ket, and the major play­ers in music innov­a­tion, journ­al­ists and rep­res­ent­at­ives of the entire music world.

    Among the names of the 2013 edi­tion, Clau­dio Bagli­oni, Fed­ez, Piero Pelù, Francesco de Gregori, Fiorella Man­noia, Marco Men­goni, Pino Daniele, Nic­colò Fabi and Renzo Arbore, all of them host­ing their own Meet the Author gath­er­ing: inter­views, con­ver­sa­tions between friends, pub­lic con­fes­sions, por­traits, in which the artists told the pub­lic about them­selves, their music, their songs, the most diverse aspects of their stor­ies and their pas­sions. Dur­ing the three days, five halls of the Med­imex exhib­i­tion space hos­ted a rich pro­gram of pan­els to dis­cuss music mar­ket trends, new tech­no­lo­gies in music, the pro­spects of a con­stantly evolving mar­ket, the music of the present and the music of the future.

    There were 21 show­cases on the three stages set up in the Fiera del Levante: Achili­funk Sound Sys­tem (Spain), Bandad­ri­at­ica (Italy), Black­mail (Ger­many), Bobo Rondel­li and l’Orches­trino (Italy), Cri­fiu (Italy), Diod­ato (Italy), Elast­ic Soci­ety (Italy), Gaïo (France), Hoba Hoba Spir­it (Morocco), Incom­prens­ibile FC (Italy), Lumin­al (Italy), Mai Per­son­al Mood (Italy), Mono­phona (Lux­em­bourg), Ogre (Por­tugal), Redrum Alone (Italy), Rhò (Italy), Ric­cardo Tesi & Ban­ditali­ana Land­scapes (Italy), See You Down­town (Italy), Smadj (France), Temenik Elec­tric (France) and Una (Italy).


    Then, on Sat­urday, Decem­ber 7, Med­imex hos­ted one of the Itali­an con­certs of Imany, music rev­el­a­tion of the year and win­ner of the multi-plat­in­um album for the single You Will Nev­er Know with more than 60,000 cop­ies sold.

    On Sunday, Decem­ber 8, at the Pet­ruzzelli Theat­er in Bari, Med­imex organ­ized of the most import­ant and pres­ti­gi­ous events on the Itali­an music cal­en­dar: the renowned Tar­ghe Tenco award cere­mony. The even­ing event included per­form­ances by the win­ners of the Tar­ghe Nic­colò Fabi, Cesare Basile, Appino, Mauro Erman­no Giovanardi and the par­ti­cip­a­tion of Manuel Agnelli, Sin­fonico Hon­olulu, Ric­cardo Tesi and guests Renzo Arbore and Vini­cio Capos­sela. The even­ing was presen­ted by Dav­id Riondino and Dario Ver­gas­sola.

    The third edi­tion of Med­imex also included pro­fes­sion­al meet­ings for artists and music oper­at­ors. The pro­gram included Face to Face(s) (B2B meet­ings between pro­fes­sion­als), Ment­or­ing (train­ing round tables) and Pitch Ses­sion (meet­ings aimed at the estab­lish­ment of new col­lab­or­a­tions) with rep­res­ent­at­ives of Gla­ston­bury Fest­iv­al (UK), SXSW (USA), Szi­get Fest­iv­al (Hun­gary), Cana­dian Music Week (Canada), Ber­lin Music Week (Ger­many) Euro­son­ic Noorder­slag Fest­iv­al (Neth­er­lands), Exit Fest­iv­al (Ser­bia), Azi­muth Pro­duc­tions (France), Korea Arts Man­age­ment Ser­vice (Korea), Jazzto­pad Fest­iv­al (Poland), Glimpse Fest­iv­al (Bel­gi­um), Byblos Inter­na­tion­al Fest­iv­al (Leban­on), F‑Cat Pro­duc­tions GmbH (Ger­many), Jazz on the beach (Fin­land), Red Sea Jazz (Israel), Inter­na­tion­al Man­agers For­um (NGO with mem­bers in 15 coun­tries), Tel Aviv Jazz Fest­iv­al (Israel), Jazz Fest­iv­al Ljubljana (Slov­e­nia) and many oth­ers.

    The second edi­tion of Med­imex hosts music­al oper­at­ors and com­pan­ies from all over Europe, record­ing a 30% increase com­pared to the pre­vi­ous edi­tion.

    From Novem­ber 29 to Decem­ber 2, Bari is  the ven­ue for the second edi­tion of Med­imex, the Medi­ter­ranean Music Fair organ­ized by Puglia Sounds, the pro­gram of the Puglia Region for the devel­op­ment of its music sys­tem.

    The second edi­tion of Med­imex sees the par­ti­cip­a­tion of music oper­at­ors and music busi­nesses from all over Europe, and registers a 30% increase over the pre­vi­ous edi­tion in terms of vis­it­ors and more than 100 applic­a­tions from Itali­an and inter­na­tion­al groups for show­cases. More than 1,300 oper­at­ors and exhib­it­ors from Italy, France, Great Bri­tain, Ger­many, Spain, Tur­key, Leban­on, Por­tugal, Poland, Alger­ia, Egypt, Greece, Tunisia, Morocco, Lux­em­bourg and Ice­land.


    Four days of events focus­ing on the new scen­ari­os of the music mar­ket, artist­ic and com­mer­cial exchange of ideas, new music trends, oppor­tun­it­ies for dis­cus­sion and under­stand dif­fer­ences and ana­lo­gies among region­al, Itali­an and inter­na­tion­al music mar­kets: Med­imex con­firms the suc­cess­ful format of the first edi­tion, intro­du­cing some new fea­tures. On Novem­ber 29, open­ing cere­mony at Teatro Pet­ruzzelli in Bari with the show Merav­iglioso Mod­ugno, a trib­ute to Domen­ico Mod­ugno.

    From Novem­ber 30, the 8,000 square meters of exhib­i­tion space will open up to over 1,000 music pro­fes­sion­als from 20 coun­tries and to the gen­er­al pub­lic with a rich pro­gram of events: 23 after­noon and even­ing show­cases span­ning all music­al genres, more than 50 events includ­ing con­ven­tions, present­a­tions, face to face(s), work­shops, author’s work­shops, Meet the Author gath­er­ings and key­note speeches with big names of Itali­an music, prot­ag­on­ists of the music industry and rep­res­ent­at­ives of cul­tur­al insti­tu­tions and of the main Itali­an and inter­na­tion­al fest­ivals and the award cere­mon­ies for Med­imex Best Itali­an Artist and Best Inter­na­tion­al Artist 2012, Pimi and Pivi.

    Among the artists par­ti­cip­at­ing in the inaug­ur­al night event, Negramaro, Noemi, Aless­andro Man­narino, Brun­ori Sas, Dente, Paci­fico, Ginev­ra di Marco, Erica Mou, Mamma Mar­jas, Raiz&Radicanto. And then, again, dur­ing the four days, Meet the Author talks with Ant­on­ello Venditti, Cater­ina Case­lli, Mogol and show­cases of Faraualla, Chemir­an­i’s, Radio Babel Mar­seille.

    This was the first edi­tion of MEDIMEX. It took place at Fiera del Levante, from 25 to 27 Novem­ber 2011. Puglia Sounds, the region­al pro­gramme for the devel­op­ment of the Puglia music sys­tem, had been launched just the year before. Med­imex, the Medi­ter­ranean Music Expo, is an oppor­tun­ity to wel­come to Bari, meet and pro­mote part­ner­ships between music oper­at­ors from Puglia and those com­ing from oth­er Itali­an regions and from abroad.

    This was the first edi­tion of MEDIMEX. It took place at Fiera del Levante, from 25 to 27 Novem­ber 2011.     Med­imex was foun­ded as a music fair, the only one in Italy ded­ic­ated to all genres of music. Three days of artist­ic and com­mer­cial exchange as well as Meet the Author gath­er­ings, con­fer­ences and them­at­ic meet­ings, but also speed dat­ing, show­cases and events. The aim is to bring togeth­er the prot­ag­on­ists of the inter­na­tion­al music industry to dis­cuss the pro­spects, prob­lems and oppor­tun­it­ies of the Itali­an and Medi­ter­ranean mar­kets.

    One thou­sand three hun­dred oper­at­ors, two hun­dred artists, over two hun­dred journ­al­ists, twenty-one guest coun­tries and five thou­sand vis­it­ors in an area of eight thou­sand square meters with one hun­dred and fifty booths and fifty live events includ­ing show­cases and events, thirty con­fer­ences, meet­ings and speed dat­ing, in addi­tion to host­ing the fif­teenth edi­tion of MEI, the Meet­ing of Inde­pend­ent Labels: this is the first edi­tion in num­bers.


    The open­ing event of the first edi­tion, on Novem­ber 24, 2011, was Merav­iglioso Mod­ugno, at the Pet­ruzzelli Theatre in Bari, a trib­ute to Domen­ico Mod­ugno pro­duced in col­lab­or­a­tion with the Pre­mio Tenco and fea­tur­ing Vini­cio Capos­sela and the Mari­netti sis­ters, Simone Crist­ic­chi, Cristina Donà, Mauro Erman­no Giovanardi, Pino Marino, Nada & Fausto Mesolella, Roy Paci, Radi­oder­vish, Peppe Servillo, Daniele Sil­vestri, Sud Sound Sys­tem, Paola Turci and Peppe Vol­tarelli. A trib­ute to the most fam­ous songs and to the invalu­able per­form­ances in ver­nacu­lar lan­guage of the pro­duc­tion of Domen­ico Mod­ugno, an artist who intro­duced in his songs the “inven­tion of the sea” and the “bit­ter­ness of his land”, in the same theat­er where fifty years earli­er Mod­ugno had cel­eb­rated the 100th anniversary of the Uni­fic­a­tion of Italy with “Rinaldo in Campo”.

    From reg­gae to pop­u­lar music, from the sounds of the Balkans to exper­i­ment­al music, from elec­tron­ic music to rock music: twenty-one artists, from Puglia, Italy and oth­er coun­tries, took turns on three stages for a jour­ney through the sounds of the Medi­ter­ranean. Sav­ina Yan­natou, The Ban­diti, Bianco, Roberta Alloisio, Sonia Brex, Boom Da Bash, Fab­riz­io Cam­marata flanked by Second Grace, Moussu T and Lei Jovents, Rodrigo Leao flanked by Cinema Ensemble, Badi­aa Bouhr­izi, Djmawi Africa, Trans­g­lob­al Under­ground and Natacha Atlas.
