    Taranto 2024

We’re happy to say that Medimex 2024 was a big success, with 75 scheduled events attracting lots of participants. There was also lots of great media coverage and over a million people reached across social media.

Medimex 2024 saw great participation in all events, sold out accommodation in Taranto, lots of media coverage, with reporters from the main Italian newspapers and media, tickets sold in more than 30 countries, 300 music operators who took part in the professional activities and a global reach – the numbers are still growing! We reached over 1.35 million users, with a wide age range, mostly between 25 and 50 years old. The majority of social media users came from the UK, Spain, the US, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, and Belgium (in descending order of coverage and interactions). We also saw some great national coverage, with lots of engagement from Puglia and huge numbers from Lombardy, Lazio, Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, and Piedmont. Plus, there were over 500,000 interactions with posts and 250,000 shares, and around 3,000 stories shared by accounts that used the hashtag #Medimex2024. Then, see you in Taranto from June 17 to 21, 2025!

On Saturday, June 22, The Smile, the first Italian concert of the band, and Sunday, June 23, Pulp, only Italian date, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, only southern Italian date, gave absolutely unforgettable, powerful, and exciting concerts on the stage of the round terrace overlooking the sea. What an incredible weekend of music! We were absolutely thrilled to see so many amazing artists performing at Spazioporto and absolutely blown away by the incredible performances by Accasaccio, Eleonora Bordonaro, Francesco Moramarco, Kyoto, Salvio Vassallo and Monica Pinto, Sandro Joyeux, Comrad, Leland Did It, Nebüla, PinhDAR, Rareș, Samia, Antonello Losacco, Evita Polidoro, NEROVIVO, Jacopo Ferrazza, Maladè, Pasquale Calò, Valentina Fin Cohors, and Wasted Generation!

But there is more to it: the Teatro Fusco was absolutely buzzing for the highly anticipated national premiere of the film Angelheaded Hipster. The Songs of Marc Bolan & T.Rex and for the meetings of The Notorious B.I.G. & Tupac Shakur with Tormento, Michael Jackson & Prince, The Beatles & The Rolling Stones, and Lou Reed & David Bowie with Manuel Agnelli—what an incredible lineup! And let’s not forget the incredible success of the video-mapping Infinite Loop, the AI Endless Exploration, an original work by Roberto Santoro, and Blending Pixels, as well as of the exhibition Bob Gruen: John Lennon, The New York Years on view until July 14 at MArTA, the National Archaeological Museum in Taranto! This year’s three-day event was a resounding success! An incredible 300 operators took part in a series of engaging activities, all focused on the exciting topic of artificial intelligence. The three days were absolutely jam-packed with a number of thought-provoking panels, presentations, and workshops on a range of topics, including internationalization, gender equality in the Italian music industry, the digital revolution, international cooperation, Sync, the Artistic Centric Model, and new perspectives for live music.

We are also pleased to announce that that Puglia Sounds Musicarium, a school of music crafts, Medimex Music Factory, realized in collaboration with Sony Music Publishing Italy, and the many activities planned all had excellent results!

  • Taranto 2023

    Taranto 2023

The 2023 edition was a very successful one. It recorded a great participation in all the events, a large influx of people to Taranto and received important visibility in the media. Furthermore, more than 300 operators from the music sector participated in the professional and networking activities.

The live shows that saw Echo & the Bunnymen, Diodato, The Murder Capital, Skunk Anansie, Tom Morello and The Cult alternate on the stage of the seafront rotunda were unforgettable and exciting. The showcases at the Spazioporto by the Apulian artists Vienna, Meschino, Lauryyn, Trevor, Leea Clem, Rosanna De Pace, Freud’s Fraud, Salento All Stars and Macro were well attended. This year Medimex also proposed events dedicated to jazz and author’s music with Nuova Generazione Jazz, a project promoted by the I‑Jazz Association with the support of MiC, with concerts by jazz musicians Aldo di Caterino, Satoyama, Simone Basile Quintet , Michele Bonifati Emong, Daykoda and Il Tenco Listen — new singer-songwriters grow promoted by Club Tenco and Puglia Sounds with performances by Piero Luccarelli, Checco Curci, Massimo Tormen and Alessia Tondo. Great participation also for Kiko Loiacono A Memorial, DJ set at the Spazioporto to remember the tour manager and producer from Bari who passed away in November 2022. Fusco Theater packed for the Velvet Lou Reed Underground Tales with Ernesto Assante, Gino Castaldo and Steve Hunter, Burt Bacharach. The big heart of the song with Ernesto Assante, Gino Castaldo and Simona Molinari, Drum Summit with Ernesto Assante, Tullio De Piscopo and Valentina Magaletti, Lucio Battisti: the birthday of the great Italian song with Ernesto Assante, Gino Castaldo and the Baustelle and the queens of Black Music: from Tina Turner to Aretha Franklin to Beyoncé with Gino Castaldo and Serena Brancale.

Participation in the Perfect Day exhibitions: Lou Reed and Andy Warhol’s New York, scheduled until 9 July at MArTA, National Archaeological Museum of Taranto and Vintage Drum Show Medimex 2023, Antonio Di Lorenzo Drum Collection, was notable. Great participation also for the Rite, the Idea, the Craft and the Dream, an original work by Roberto Santoro and Blending Pixels created for Medimex.

The spaces of the University pulsate with life for professional and networking activities which brought a prestigious representation of the Italian music market to Taranto to discuss the Music Commission, support for the new generations, the live market, the recording industry, songwriting, protections and rights, funding for the recording industry and music in the time of TikTok.

    Bari 2022

The 3 days in Bari — 5 years after the last edition in 2017 — was a complex, rich, unforgettable edition.

The 3 days in Bari — 5 years after the last edition in 2017 — was a complex, rich, unforgettable edition. Medimex brought the attention of the Italian music industry back to Bari, expressed positions, ideas and notes played in the Italian debate on the show and the phase it is facing.

The meetings with Truppi, Woody Woodmansey, Shablo, Venerus, Rancore and Diodato hosted in the enchanting Kursaal Santalucia Theater and with Denis O’Regan, at the Margherita Theatre, accompanied the festival audience, entertained, passionate and surprised them.

And then the concerts, those of the Apulians in Torre Quetta, Radicanto, Nidi D’Arac, Folkatomic, Après la Classe, Rachele Andrioli, Giovanni Angelini, Fabio Accardi & FabCrew, Sentinelle, Gaia Gentile, Red Room, Mr. Bricks, Marco Cassanelli and Deckard and finally the English The Chemical Brothers. The pure spectacle.

After Taranto, the Medimex journey ended perfectly, in Bari, leading us to rediscover a city, a festival, an audience, generous, involved, vital.

    Taranto 2022

The four days in Taranto were a dry and powerful edition, comparable to the first stage of a space launch.

The four days in Taranto were a dry and powerful edition, comparable to the first stage of a space launch. Meanwhile, Medimex continues its ascent to reach Bari, in July, from the 13th to the 15th. The generosity of the guest artists has touched peaks of true communion with Nick Cave and his The Bad Seeds, in a united and quivering Rotonda, a lawn of 14 thousand exultant hands.

The same generosity shown with grace by Margherita Carducci or Ditonellapiaga, by Filippo Graziani and Federico Poggipollini, who gave themselves to the public that crowded the Fusco Theater — at different times — in performances without reservations; that of Tommaso Colliva and Enrico Gabrielli with their new project dedicated to the Maestro, Ennio Morricone, in the meeting where Michele Riondino also participated. The lively intelligence, the desire to be heard of the founder of Hipgnosis Studio, Aubrey Powell, who talked about his works – Hipgnosis Studio: Pink Floyd and Beyond – on display at MArTA.

And finally the enormous and very popular Carlo Massarini who spoke once again and always in new words about the enormous Pink Floyd. And always to them, to Pink Floyd, Taranto overlooking the parapet of Corso Due Mari and sitting at the tables of the bars and restaurants, enjoyed a powerful audiovisual tribute projected on the walls of the Aragonese Castle which became a screen and blackboard for the occasion.

A stadium, that of Taranto, which has been perfectly concluded and which will allow the Medimex capsule to reach Bari — with new professional, training and live events — after a 5‑year journey — do you remember Iggy Pop? – in the other Apulian communities.

In 2019 Medimex is back in Taranto, one of the most beautiful towns in our country.
